Sleep America Charities

Since our opening in 1997, it has been our privilege to give back to the communities where we live and do business.  We love supporting children and families in need through organizations that focus on their needs.  Sleep America has given to over 500 different local organizations through water donations, gift certificates and bed programs.  You can find many of the charities we work with on this page, and we offer many opportunities for you to work side by side with us.  We can make a big difference in our communities if we work together!

How has Sleep America Charities helped others?

UMOM Bed Donation
This year we partnered with Tempur-Pedic to donate 140 mattresses to the UMOM homeless shelter to help those in need get a better night sleep. We are happy to be able to donate to their homeless shelter to help over 150 families. The UMOM facility has a number of different programs to provide assistance families in Arizona. Visit their website to learn more about their work.

Get in Bed with KSLX and Sleep America
The three day LIVE on-air promotion invites many friends to be examples to the community in motivating listeners to donate money, canned food or other non-perishable items to Sleep America locations to feed the hungry through St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance.

The Great Bed Race for Charity
The bed race was the very first one of its kind in the Valley!  This exciting event closes out our 3-day food drive.  Each teams races to the finish line, trying to eliminate the competition and make it to the finals.  Awards are given for “favorite sleepwear,” “best decorated bed”, and the silver cup trophy goes to “the fastest team”.

Put Your Best Foot Forward Shoe Drive
The “Put Your Best Foot Forward” shoe drive was founded in 2000 to help impoverished child athletes gain appropriate athletic footwear.  Since then, Sleep America Charities has helped to provide thousand of shoes to homeless and underprivileged children throughout the Valley.  Beneficiaries from previous years include: The Salvation Army, HomeBase Youth Services, Homeward Bound, Thomas J. Pappas, Golden Gate Community Center and Florence Crittenton.

Mattress and Pillow Donations
Every year, Sleep America donates a countless number of new mattresses, as well as new pillows, to deserving organizations throughout the state of Arizona.  A few of our most recent donations include:  Florence Crittenton, UMOM New Day Centers, Sofia’s House, Phoenix Youth Hostel, Editha House, Hellsgate Fire Department, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix, St. Vincent de Paul, The Salvation Army, Homeward Bound, Yarnell Fire Department and Andre House.

Mattress Recycling
Being environmentally correct, our consumers’ beds do not go to landfills but are refurbished and recycled to someone who would otherwise be sleeping on the floor. When a custom er purchases a new bed from one of our stores, they have a chance to donate their old one.  Through our Customer Donation Program, Sleep America is able to donate even more mattresses to those in need.  Joining us in this effort, St. Vincent de Paul visits our Distribution Center daily to collect donated mattresses to help the poor.  To date, Sleep America has recycled over a quarter of a million mattresses in this program.

Backpacks for Kids
The Pack to School Drive is an annual school supply drive supported by The Salvation Army, state employees and various local sponsors. This effort began in 2003 with former Governor and current Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and has grown every year.  Sleep America became a sponsor in 2005 and served as a drop-off location for school supplies.  In 2008, Sleep America started the Backpacks for Kids collection in which we support our local Salvation Army through our own school supply drive.  Sleep America has donated thousands of backpacks and school supplies since its inception.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix
Sleep America annually sponsors a family dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. Our group plans the menu, purchases the food, cooks and serves the meal, and cleans up afterwards.  It’s very rewarding to provide a home cooked meal for those families who must travel to the Phoenix area to receive medical treatment for their children.

Habitat for Humanity
Sleep America annually teams up with Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona to help build homes in Phoenix.  Sleep America employees graciously volunteer their time to help a neighbor get one step closer to owning their own home.

Christmas Adopt a Family
For years, Sleep America has teamed up with our local schools and granted the neediest families their Christmas wishes. Sleep America employees “adopt” these families and purchase the items on their wish list.  Some families wouldn't have received a gift at all if it wasn't for the generosity of Sleep America associates.
